Dogana is a district of the municipality of Civitella Paganico in the province of Grosseto , Tuscany region in Italy .
geography
The place is located approx. 5 km northeast of the district Paganico , which gives the name of Civitella Paganico , approx. 4 km southeast of the main town Civitella Marittima and approx. 30 km northeast of the provincial capital Grosseto . Siena is about 40 km north. Dogana is about 1.5 km west of the tributary of the Orcia in the Ombrone and about 1 km west of the Lanzo river at 206 meters above sea level and has about 40 inhabitants.
The name Dogana , which means customs office , refers to the location of the place where the shepherds had to pay the pascolo, the pasture fee, to the city of Siena to access the Maremme of Grosseto for grazing the animals. The customs post was the castle, the name Dogana was then transferred to the whole place.
