Mahōjin Guru Guru ( Japanese 魔法 陣 グ ル グ ル ) is a gag manga by Hiroyuki Etō , which appeared between 1992 and 2003, has been continued since 2012 and has also been adapted several times as an anime .
content
The series appears as a parody of early computer role-playing games of the nineties such as the Dragon Quest series. These were always characterized by the same elements as they appear in the series: child-like heroes, monsters, various weapons and spells, narrators and information boxes. In addition, the story is structured like a game - with a main goal of the heroes (defeat the evil Giri) and numerous side quests.
The heroes are the young Nike, who was raised to be a hero by his father Bado, and the magician Kukuri, who was raised by an old witch.
publication
Mahōjin Guru Guru is drawn by Hideyuki Etō and was published between July 1992 (Issue 8/1992) and August 2003 (Issue 9/2003) in the magazine Shōnen Gangan published by Enix , later Square Enix . The individual chapters were also summarized in 16 anthologies ( Tankōbon ). In 2014 there was a new edition ( shinsōban ) in eight volumes.
The sequel Mahōjin Guru Guru 2 ( 魔法 陣 グ ル グ ル 2 ) has been running as a web manga in the online magazine Gangan Online since November 1, 2012 . Of these, three anthologies have been published so far (as of April 2015).
In addition, other books were published, such as an anime comic in five volumes on the film, art books and picture books on the anime, including a series in 10 volumes ( 講 談 社 の テ レ ビ 絵 本 魔法 陣 グ ル グ ル , Kōdansha no Terebi Ehon: Mahōjin Guru Guru ).
Anime
By Nippon Animation several adaptations come the first manga series. The first anime series Mahōjin Guru Guru by director Nobuaki Nakanishi comprised 45 episodes and was based on the Manga volumes 1 to 4. These were broadcast from October 13, 1994 to September 14, 1995 on Asahi Hōsō . The episodes were also released on 12 laser discs by Sony Music and later on a DVD box by Bandai Visual.
On April 20, 1996, the 37-minute film Gekijōban Mahōjin Guru Guru ( 劇場版 魔法 陣 グ ル グ ル ) also by director Nobuaki Nakanishi was released. SME Visual Works (now Aniplex ) released the film on DVD.
Four years later, a second series called Doki Doki Densetsu: Mahōjin Guru Guru ( ド キ ド キ ♡ 伝 説 魔法 陣 グ ル グ ル ) was produced with a different production staff, directed by Jun Takagi. This comprised a further 38 episodes and was based on Manga volumes 5 to 11. It was broadcast from April 4 to December 26, 2000 on TV Tokyo , and later released as a DVD box by Bandai Visual.
Both series were also released in Italy as Guru Guru - Il girotondo della magia and Guru Guru - Il batticuore della magia on Rai 2 , as well as the first series in Mexico as Los Caballeros de Kodai on TV Azteca .
Video games
Enix published the game Mahōjin Guru Guru for the Super Famicon on April 21, 1995 , which was followed up with Mahōjin Guru Guru 2 exactly one year later . This has nothing to do with the manga of the same name from 2012. Takara published the Game Boy game Mahōjin Guru Guru - Yūsha to Kukuri Daibōken ( 魔法 陣 グ ル グ ル 〜 勇者 と ク ク リ の 大 冒 険 〜 ) on April 28, 1995 . The last game was Doki Doki Densetsu: Mahōjin Guru Guru , after the television series of the same name, for the Game Boy Color by Enix.
