Briande dolmen

The restored dolmen of La Briande is a dolmen in Ramatuelle , east of "La Bastide Blanche" in the Var department in France . It must not be confused with the " Dolmens of Briande 1 and 2" in the Vienne department . In France, dolmen is the generic term for Neolithic megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).

description

The southernmost dolmen in the Var department is located on a hill about 300 m from the sea. Although damaged, the architecture of the rectangular chamber is clearly visible. It is by two orthostats from granite limited. Chipped slabs of gneiss , which are connected by low dry masonry , lie on the former edge of the chamber. The capstone is missing. The floor was paved with pebbles of marine origin. A corridor or entrance is not available. The dolmen was restored by Helen Barge and Eric Mahieu.

According to Oscar Rappaz, who found the dolmen in 1935, the chamber in the southern part was divided into two to three small areas separated by slate plates. The excavation yielded lanceolate arrowheads made of flint and some pendants made of glass-like quartz and serpentine as well as disc beads .
