Live and act

Domenico Pozzi painted pictures as a child. According to the story, he found brushes and paint by chance and painted the family friend of the family very talented, so that his father Francesco Pozzi did not train him as a plasterer like his older brothers Giuseppe Antonio and Carlo Luca Pozzi , but as a painter.

Domenico Pozzi first trained with the fresco painter Giuseppe Appiani in Milan and then went to the art academy. Later he went to Parma and at the age of 21 was awarded the “Grand Prize for Painting”. He moved to Rome, where he lived for two years. There he won second prize for his picture “The Transfiguration of Christ”.

Finally he went on a long trip to Como , Milan and Mannheim . In Mannheim, he and his brother Giuseppe decorated the ceiling of Count Castelli's library. Finally he painted the three round pictures "Faith", "Love" and "Hope" on the vault of the central nave of St. Ursus Cathedral in Solothurn . Other works were two pictures of the Passion of Christ for the Crucifixion Chapel in Castel San Pietro . One picture shows the crowning of thorns and the other the flagellation of Jesus. In Genoa he took part in the painting of the council room of the newly built Palazzo Municipale.

Domenico Pozzi was friends with the art historian Johann Caspar Füssli and provided him with a lot of information for his work “History of the best artists in Switzerland”. Domenico Pozzi was married to Maria Antonia Vassalli from Riva S. Vitale and died in 1796.
