Domenico Sciassia
Domenico Sciassia (* 1599/1603 in Roveredo (Switzerland); † February 19, 1679 in Graz ) was an early baroque builder in Styria and Lower Austria .
Life
From 1635 Domenico Sciassia appeared as an employee of Cypriano Biasino while working at the Göttweig Abbey . In 1654 he married Biasinos stepdaughter.
He is said to have been solely responsible for the crypt in Göttweig. As early as 1638 he was responsible for redesigning the Lilienfeld Abbey , and from 1639 also the St. Lambrecht Abbey . He created the striking three-tower facade of the basilica of Mariazell , designed the former St. Lambrecht monastery, which today houses the Landesmuseum Joanneum , as well as the parish churches in St. Veit (Graz, 1657–1662, still influenced by the Renaissance ), Judenburg and Köflach and the Vorau collegiate church . In 1668 he designed the nave facades of the Göttweig collegiate church . He was also the construction of the Capuchin monastery And in Krems and the pilgrimage church of Maria Taferl involved.
