Dominador Aytona

Dominador Rosauro Aytona (born May 23, 1918 in Libon , Albay , † September 26, 2017 ) was a Filipino politician .

Life

Aytona completed a teacher training course at the Albay Normal School after attending elementary and middle school in the Albay Training Department. After graduating, he became a teacher in Vinzons in Camarines Norte in 1935 , where he met Magdalena Raro, who also worked there as a teacher, and married her in 1938. Shortly thereafter, the couple moved to Manila , where he worked as an office clerk in the General Auditing Office and at the same time completed an evening course at the University of Manila City . In the following years he worked at the Central Audit Office as a budget auditor, local auditor, tax statistician, head of section and most recently as central auditor.

His thereat studying business administration ended Aytona in 1947 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BBA) summa cum laude. He completed a subsequent postgraduate degree in law in 1949 with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) magna cum laude, before obtaining a Master of Laws (LL.M.) cum laude in 1951 . He was admitted to the bar in 1950 as the second best with a grade point average of 94.55 percent.

In 1950, Aytona was appointed by the Senate as its financial advisor and in this capacity worked closely with Ramon Magsaysay , who at the time represented Zambales as a member of the House of Representatives . After Magsaysay was elected President of the Philippines in 1953 , he appointed him on January 1, 1954 at the age of 36 years as Commissioner of the Budget .

On January 25, 1960 President Carlos P. Garcia appointed Aytona to succeed Jaime Hernandez as Secretary of Finance in his government. He held the office of finance minister until December 29, 1961 and his subsequent replacement by Fernando Sison on January 2, 1962. At the same time, he was chairman of the Central Bank's Currency Council ( Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas ).

In 1965 Aytona was elected as a Senator candidate for the Nationalist Party and served in the Senate for a six-year term until 1971. He then founded a law firm in Manila and worked as a lawyer.

In 1980 he was one of the co-founders of the United Nationalist Democratic Organization (UNIDO), a party alliance that campaigned for the removal of the dictatorial ruling President Ferdinand Marcos .
