Acorn (heraldry)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In heraldry , the acorn is a common figure that appears in coats of arms individually or together or combined with oak leaves or oak leaves. It is the typical appearance of mature, but in her still on the tree fruit cups fruit located from central and southern Europe native oak species (called, for example, which also "German Oak" English oak modeled) and always with fruit cups, mostly with stem and often vertically ( standing or hanging).

The tinging (coloring) is often gold (yellow), occasionally also green or red, rarely silver (white). The fruit cup is rarely tinged differently in green, mostly with the same tinging as the fruiting body, covered with a black diagonal thread grid (i.e. drawn through to the edge of the partial figure; seldom also only occupied, i.e. not continuous to the edge of the partial figure), so that it can appear darker, without having to use an unheraldic color.
