Göttlin [ ˌgœtˈliːn ] is a district of the district town of Rathenow in the Havelland district in Brandenburg .

Göttlin lies at a height of 30 m above sea level. NHN about three kilometers northwest of Rathenow on the state border to Saxony-Anhalt , connected by the district road 6321 with Rathenow and Grütz . The place has 450 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2015). The size of the district is around 13 km².

Göttlin was first mentioned in a document in 1381/82 in the loan books of the archbishops of Magdeburg. The history of settlements in Göttlin goes back to the Neolithic Age, as can be deduced from 23 protected archaeological monuments. Several unfortified settlements and their typical legacies such as stone axes and ceramics, which were assigned to the Neolithic Age, were found near Havel.

Until the territorial reform in the GDR in 1952, it belonged to the district of Jerichow II in the state of Saxony-Anhalt (renamed the district of Genthin in 1950 ), since then to the district of Rathenow in the district of Potsdam and since 1990 in the state of Brandenburg and since 1993 to the district of Havelland in the state of Brandenburg.

As part of the municipal reform, Göttlin became a district of Rathenow on January 1, 2002.

Historical coat of arms

The former community of Göttlin already had a coat of arms-like seal image in its community seal. This was used in the period after the Second World War until about the introduction of the districts and counties in the GDR (1945–1952).
