history

Semlin was first mentioned in a document in 1441 and has a half-timbered church from 1732.

Anna Rahns from Semlin, who was interrogated in 1672 during the witch hunt in Semlin on charges of magical damage and went down in village history as a “butter witch”, put a memorial on the village square in 2002, which the Grütz artist Volker Roth († 2008 ) designed.

In the 1920s and 1930s, Semlin became increasingly interesting for tourists and newcomers. Oluf Schacht, brother of the Reichsbank President and Minister of Economics Hjalmar Schacht , lived with his family in a villa outside the village.

Berlin actors like Fritz Odemar and his wife Erika Nymgau, writer Erich Kästner and the dime novel writer Axel Rudolph were looking for relaxation at the lake. Axel Rudolph lived in Semlin from 1936; his affair with the daughter of the NSDAP local group leader led to the arrest of the politically disliked writer in 1943, who died under the guillotine after being sentenced by the People's Court in Brandenburg prison .

From 1941 Marianne Lohan, daughter of the architect Mies van der Rohe , sought refuge with her family from the Rathenow war in the Semlin Castle Lötze, built 1912–1915 on the western shore of the lake.

politics

Semlin's district mayor is Alfred Mantau (SPD).

The Semliner Drei-Seen-Lauf, a traditional 8, 21 and 25 km run in the disciplines of Nordic walking, running and cycling, will take place on the morning of the same Saturday - in 2019 for the 38th time. The run now attracts over 1,000 participants. Timekeeping and entry fees have always been waived at the largest fun run in Westhavelland.
