Life
Odemar's father was the court actor Fritz Odemar senior ( Karl Julius Friedrich Odemar ; 1858–1926), his mother was his wife Anna Emma Charlotte, née Tiedemann. Fritz Odemar made his debut at the Münster Theater in 1909 . His theater career took him via Koblenz and Bremen in 1914 to the Nationaltheater Mannheim and in 1921 to the Schauspielhaus Frankfurt . From 1928 he played on various Berlin theaters, such as the Berlin Comedy or the Deutsches Theater . Odemar u. a. in productions by Gustaf Gründgens and Heinz HilpertWith. After roles in a few silent films, he has appeared in over 130 feature films. He often embodied noble types, aristocrats and diplomats, but also cardsharps and impostors.
Fritz Odemar, who played roles alongside Hans Albers in five sound films , made several derogatory comments about the National Socialists when he was drunk. A chilling example was made of him. He was attacked at night in his Berlin apartment and beaten with riding crops to such an extent that his whole body was covered with welts. The reason for this was that he vigorously protested against this vilification at a party event at which emigrated artists such as Gitta Alpár , Fritzi Massary and Elisabeth Bergner were insulted in the worst possible way.
After the Second World War, he played in the small comedy in Munich from 1945 . One of his last stage roles was the murderer Shunderson in Dr. med. Job Prätorius by Curt Goetz at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus . He made his last film appearance as General von der Tann at the side of OW Fischer in Ludwig II. - Splendor and misery of a king . He was married to the actress Erika Nymgau and is the father of the actor and director Erik Ode .
His grave is in the cemetery in Bernau am Chiemsee .
