Scandal in the Embassy is a German fiction film from 1950 by Erik Ode and Richard Eichberg , who presented his last film here as artistic director. Viktor de Kowa plays a double role. The story is based on the comedy A decent person by Georg Fraser .

action

Fred Corvin is a smart young man. He designed a universal key with which he can open virtually any lock. The scruples of the thief, however, are limited, and since one day he is caught opening the safe of the city authorities with his super key, he promptly ends up behind bars. In the government of his unspecified homeland, the skilful burglar was noticed and he was offered a reciprocal deal: Fred will be released if he uses his key skills on behalf of the state. He should even be properly rewarded for this. Fred says yes and is given the task of sneaking into the embassy of a foreign, "hostile" power at night in order to break into their safe. There is supposed to be a secret formula for a “miracle weapon” that the secret service really wants to get its hands on.

This action is legal in so far as an agent from that “hostile” country had previously stolen this formula and brought it to the embassy. Immediately she sets Fred on the way and can penetrate the embassy. After some turbulent events, the thief succeeds in getting the document back. But suddenly the events get more and more confusing, because suddenly the Asian diplomat Dr. Tamanyo on the scene, and he bears an astonishing resemblance to Fred. After the following events, which cause Fred to go through a catharsis from crook to purified citizen, he decides that it would be better if no one got hold of the sinister formula and lets the document disappear without further ado.
