Dominic Demeritte
Dominic Demeritte (born February 22, 1978 in Nassau ) is a Bahamian sprinter who specialized in the 200-meter run .
Athletic career
He was particularly successful at the Central American and Caribbean Championships .
- In 1994, at the age of 16, he won the bronze medal in the triple jump in the junior division of Port of Spain .
- In 1996 in San Salvador he was successful with silver over 200 meters (21.23 s) and bronze over 100 meters (10.73 s) and with the 4 x 400 meter relay (41.51 s) three times.
- In 2003 in St. George’s , he won the 200 meters in 20.43 s after winning gold in 20.60 s at the NACAC U-25 Championships in San Antonio a year earlier .
- In 2005 in Nassau he ran a good 20.47 s, which was enough for bronze.
He won his third gold medal in 2004 at the World Indoor Championships in Budapest , where he left Johan Wissman from Sweden and the German Tobias Unger behind in 20.66 s . A year earlier in Birmingham he was third in 20.93 seconds behind the British Marlon Devonish and Joseph Batangdon from Cameroon .
He was denied Olympic honors. Through its special distance 200 meters, he started both in 2000 in Sydney and 2004 in Athens , but was eliminated early.
