Dominik Andreas von Kaunitz-Rietberg-Questenberg

Dominik Andreas (II). von Kaunitz-Rietberg-Questenberg (born March 30, 1739 in Vienna ; † November 26, 1812 there ) was a landowner, diplomat and imperial court official.

Life

He was the third son of Wenzel Anton von Kaunitz-Rietberg and Maria Ernestine, geb. from Starhemberg.

Legacy of the Questenberg

Under the condition of the name and coat of arms association, his aunt Maria Antonia von Questenberg and her husband Johann Adam von Questenberg appointed him to inherit the property of the von Questenberg family . Among them was the Palais Questenberg in Vienna and the castle in Jarmeritz . From 1761 he called himself von Kaunitz-Rietberg-Questenberg.

Diplomacy and court service

He entered the Austrian diplomatic service and was ambassador to Madrid between 1774/1776 and 1779/1780. Dominik Andreas was accepted into the Order of the Golden Fleece in 1792 . From 1794 he was Vice-Colonel-Hofstallmeister and from 1807 Oberststallmeister .

Rietberg's legacy

After his brother's death in 1797, he became his heir and thus ruling count in Rietberg . The country was occupied by the French in 1806/07 and incorporated into the Kingdom of Westphalia .

Marriage and offspring

Dominik Andreas von Kaunitz-Rietberg-Questenberg married Bernardine Countess von Plettenberg - Wittem in 1762 . With this he had three offspring:

  1. Marie Theresia Aloisia (1763–1803) married Rudolf Johann Wenzel von Wrbna and Freudenthal . After the male line of Kaunitz died out, Rudolf Christian Graf Wrbna and Freudenthal († 1927) acquired a name and coat of arms as "Wrbna-Kaunitz-Rietberg-Questenberg and Freudenthal" for himself and his successors as the owner of the Kaunitz Fideikommiss .
  2. Maria Antonia (1765–1805) was a canoness in Mons .
  3. Alois Wenzel Dominik (1774–1848) was the father's successor.

Bernardine von Kaunitz-Rietberg died in 1779 and was buried in St. Stephen's Cathedral.
