philosophy

In her books, articles, lectures, lectures and editorials for the magazine ecologiK, Dominique Gauzin-Müller expresses her philosophy, which is characterized by a holistic approach to architecture and ecologically responsible urban planning . It questions the constant growth in the industrialized countries in favor of a more equitable redistribution of the increasingly scarce resources. It also defends the slogan "think globally, act locally" and the search for a balance between tradition and progress. In this context, she tries to highlight the ecological qualities of traditional architecture and to revitalize the traditional craft methods, since these are carriers of regional economic, social and cultural development. She feels very strongly connected to the collective intelligence and tries to emphasize the importance of the cooperation between the various parties involved in construction: political decision-makers, builders, architects, engineers, entrepreneurs, craftsmen and users. Exchange and mutual respect are the foundation of a constructive working atmosphere and a new solidarity between professions and generations.

Dominique Gauzin-Müller's motto is humanistic : "The future lies in the human, not in the technical", she explains in the editorial of the third edition of ecologiK (June / July 2008). For them, architecture and urban planning are at the center of the new, global challenges; they not only have to be "ecologically correct", but also "socially just and economically feasible", the aim is to support the weakest and to create a more humane space for everyone create. But her philosophy is also anchored in her actions, and she tries, together with the négaWatt network , to which she has been a member since 2007, to find concrete solutions to the dangers our society is facing, from climate change and the waste of raw materials to the inequality of the two Hemispheres. She is convinced that the "ecological approach does not prescribe a model, that it can be implemented with slight adjustments to countries in the northern and southern hemispheres, and above all that it promotes architectural creativity."

Dominique Gauzin-Müller attaches great importance to the inner revolution that such an approach to architecture and urban planning requires, and to its positive aspects: "The ecologically responsible approach is not a handicap like many other things, it is a state of mind that affects the realm of the Redefined possible! "

Exhibition "Habiter écologique"

Dominique Gauzin-Müller is curator of an exhibition on ecologically responsible living that will take place from April to September 2009 in the Cité de l'architecture et du patrimoine "(City of Architecture and Cultural Heritage) in the Palais de Chaillot in Paris. This exhibition and the events associated with it are aimed not only at architects, but also at people who are interested in ecological building. The aim is to participate in the search for solutions to the great challenges of the 21st century, especially urban growth, the reduction of available resources and pollution. According to Dominique Gauzin-Müller, "The purpose of this exhibition is to inspire users and architects to take on this challenge together." The exhibition will show examples of single-family houses and small apartment buildings that use resources as well as being energy efficient. You will take the approach of about a dozen nd pioneers of the 20th century ( Alvar Aalto , Hassan Fathy , Glenn Murcutt , Zanine ...) as well as contemporary architects from all continents. Many events will take place as part of the exhibition: lectures, courses, studios where students design housing for the homeless, studios for schoolchildren, etc.
