The Bolzano Cathedral Treasury in the Old Provostry of the Assumption Cathedral in Bolzano ( South Tyrol , Italy ) on Pfarrplatz is a museum of sacred art founded in 2007 and is one of the most extensive baroque church inventories in Tyrol .

exhibition

In addition to precious liturgical vestments and flag paintings by renowned baroque painters , the collection is primarily characterized by exquisite goldsmith work from the 18th century. With almost a hundred selected objects, the cathedral treasury presents an insight into the Roman Catholic liturgy and popular piety . The collection traces the history of the parish and pays special attention to the building history and the furnishings of the Marienpfarrkirche (since 1964: Domes).

construction

In the first of four rooms the history of the city of Bozen and the cathedral parish church is told. In the second room, the processional culture and the worship of images of grace are themed and the reliquary collection is on display; Particularly noteworthy is the oil painting by Josef Anton Cuseth, which records the translation of the relics of Heinrich von Bozen in 1759 and their ingenious processions . In the third room there are blacksmiths made of gold and silver; Among the exhibits stands out a silver, late Gothic tower monstrance from around 1490, which probably comes from an Augsburg workshop. The fourth room is dedicated to the elevation of the parish to collegiate monastery in 1717; Staff and Mitra of the provost and the 1777 by Empress Maria Theresia to the canons granted chest medallion can be seen in the exhibition.

The museum was designed by architect Klaus Hellweger in a minimalist way with steel elements in order to draw everyone's attention to the exhibits.
