Don Pomb Polye (born February 1, 1967 ) is a Papua New Guinean politician.

Training and work

Polye attended elementary and middle school in Mount Hagen as well as the Wewak high school . From 1987 to 1990 he studied civil engineering at the Technical University in Lae (degree: Bachelor), from 2004 to 2007 management at Southern Cross University in Lismore, Australia (degree: Master of Business Administration ).

From 1991 to 1994 and again in 1997, Polye worked as an engineer for the Ministry of Public Works. From 1994 to 1996 he worked on the construction of the Tabubil - Kiunga copper ore pipeline for the private civil engineering company Starwest Constructions. From 1998 to 2001 he worked as a private consultant.

Political party

Don Polye was a member of the National Alliance Party and at times its vice chairman. In 2012 he founded the Triumph Heritage Empowerment Party , which he has chaired since then.

MP

Since 2002, Polye has been a member of the parliament of Papua New Guinea for the constituency of Kandep in the province of Enga .

Gunshots rang out in June 2007 while Polye was performing at a political event in his constituency. An opposing candidate for his seat was later charged with attempted murder.

Polye was re-elected to Parliament on August 14, 2009 but was forced to resign when the National Court ruled that his 2007 election victory was invalid. The judge's decision included the rationale that it was difficult to believe that in some polling stations 100% of voters had voted for polyes. The by-election for the seat took place on November 9, 2009, and Polye ran again. He was able to regain his seat.

Public offices

Under Prime Minister Michael Somare , Polye was Minister of Transport from 2002 to 2010. From 2005 to 2006 he was also Minister for Education and Research. From 2006 to 2007 he was Deputy Prime Minister. In July 2010, he replaced Puka Temu as deputy prime minister after he had unsuccessfully tried to overthrow Somare with a motion of censure . Polye himself lost his post as deputy prime minister on December 7, 2010 in an improvised cabinet reshuffle carried out under "exceptional circumstances", according to ABC News Australia. From December 2010 to June 2011 he was Foreign Minister under Michael Somare.

In August 2011, Polye became Secretary of the Treasury in the government of Peter O'Neill .

Don Polye is a Seventh-day Adventist and married.
