Don Williams (born May 2, 1942 in Portsmouth , Ohio , † April 10, 2013 in Mansfield , Ohio) was a professional American poker player . He won three bracelets of the World Series of Poker and was considered The World's Best Unknown poker player .

Personal

Williams served in the US Army and after that time moved to Las Vegas . He was married and the father of two daughters and one son.

Poker career

Career

Williams participated in prestigious live tournaments from 1982 on.

Williams was successful for the first time in May 1982 at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Binion's Horseshoe in Las Vegas and won a tournament of the Limit Seven Card Stud variant . For this he received a bracelet and a prize of 56,000 US dollars . He secured his second bracelet three years later by winning an event of the same variant at the 1985 WSOP with a grand prize of $ 85,500. In January 1987, Williams won the Grand Prix of Poker at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas for $ 108,000 in prize money. At the 1987 WSOP , he finished second twice and finished eleventh in the main event . A year later Williams followed up with his third bracelet and prevailed in the Limit Razz variant , for which he received a prize of $ 76,800. At the 1991 WSOP , he reached the final table of the main event and finished fourth to secure his highest cash prize of $ 115,000. At the end of April 1993, Williams finished second behind Phil Hellmuth at a limit hold'em event at the 1993 WSOP for just under $ 80,000. Williams received his last cash placement at the World Series of Poker in May 1995 .

In total, Williams has earned over $ 1.5 million in poker playing live tournaments.
