Donald Akenson

Donald Harman Akenson (born May 22, 1941 in Minneapolis , Minnesota ) is an American historian and writer.

Life

Akenson studied at the Yale University History and graduated there with the Bachelor of Arts from to at the Harvard University to be promoted. Akenson is Professor of History at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario , Beamish Research Professor at the Department of Irish Studies at the University of Liverpool, and Senior Editor at McGill-Queen's University Press.

To date, he has written eighteen non-fictional scientific monographs , including around a dozen on the history of Ireland , and five novels .

Akenson won the Grawemeyer Award for God's Peoples in 1992 and the Trillium Book Award for Conor: The Biography of Conor Cruise O'Brien in 1994 . His book on the Bible , Surpassing Wonder: The Invention of the Bible and the Talmuds (1998), was shortlisted for the 1999 Canadian Governor General's Award for Nonfiction.

Donald Akenson is also a member of the Royal Society of Canada and the Royal Historical Society of the United Kingdom .
