Donatas Motiejūnas (born September 20, 1990 in Kaunas ) is a Lithuanian basketball player who is currently under contract in the National Basketball Association with the San Antonio Spurs .
Europe
Motiejūnas came in the 2007/08 season for the first time for the senior team from Žalgiris Kaunas to use. To get more playing time, he moved to league rivals Aisčiai Kaunas . Motiejūnas scored almost 20 points per game in the league and then moved to Pallacanestro Treviso . In 2011 he reached the Final Four of the Eurocup with this club and was awarded the Eurocup Rising Star Trophy . He also signed up for the 2011 NBA draft . However, he played another season for the Polish club Asseco Prokom Gdynia . With this he won the Polish championship in 2012. In addition, on December 7th, when Prokom won over KK Union Olimpija , he set a new defensive rebound record in the Euroleague with 21 rebounds (18 defensive).
NBA
In the 2011 NBA Draft Motiejūnas was selected in 20th place by the Minnesota Timberwolves and then transferred to the Houston Rockets . After his season at Prokom, he signed a four-year contract with the Rockets worth 4.23 million US dollars . During his first season for the Rockets, he started in 14 of 44 games, scoring 5.7 points and 2.1 rebounds per game. The following year, statistics stayed roughly the same.
In the 2014-15 season Motiejūnas put down a massive increase. After the nonimelle power forward Terrence Jones was out for several months, Motiejūnas was ordered into the starting grid. There he scored in 71 games from 62 starts, an average of 12.0 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists on average. In February 2016 Motiejūnas should be transferred to the Detroit Pistons along with Marcus Thornton . A few days later, the transfer was canceled because Motiejūnas had failed the medical test. In January 2017 he then moved to the New Orleans Pelicans . After two seasons in China, Motiejūnas moved back to the NBA for the San Antonio Spurs in April 2019 .
National team
Motiejūnas played for the Lithuanian national team at different ages. In 2008 he was elected MVP of the U-18 European Championship. At that tournament Motiejūnas reached the final with Lithuania as well as a week later at the U-20 European Championship.
In 2013 he reached second place with Lithuania at the European Championships in Slovenia . At the Basketball World Cup 2014 Motiejūnas reached fourth place with Lithuania. Due to a back injury, he was canceled for the 2015 European Championships .
