The Donauparkhalle in Vienna's 22nd district of Donaustadt was built in 1964 on a former garbage dump in the Donaupark in the Kaisermühlen district on the occasion of the Vienna International Garden Show ( WIG 64 ) and converted into an ice rink two years later. From the 1966/67 season , the first home games of the Vienna EV were played in the new hall. Later it was the home of the two Viennese ice hockey clubs WAT Stadlau and WEV. The hall was popular for its acoustics, but the concrete pillars made it difficult to watch. The hall was demolished after the 1990/91 season , as part of the property was planned for the 1995 EXPO , which, however, was not realized.

environmental pollution

At the beginning of the 1990s, the environmental authority of the municipality of Vienna found an increased methane concentration in the area of the Donauparkhalle, which, however, did not cause any problems due to a ventilation system.

Major events

In 1967 the Vienna Stadthallenturnier was not held in this one, but in the Donauparkhalle. The ice stock world championship also took place in the hall and in 1976 the sport bowling world championship. The ice hockey world championship in 1967 and 1987 and world championships in figure skating also took place here.
