The Donets Plateau (also Donets Ridge ) is a plateau-like mountain range up to 369 m high in the Ukraine and Russia .
It is part of the great Eastern European Plain and is mainly located in the Ukraine, only its extreme southeast still extends into the European part of southwest Russia . It is located south of the Siversky Donets River between the Sea of Azov in the south, the Azov Highlands in the southwest and the Central Russian Plate in the north. In the southeast it borders on the Manytn lowlands .
The mountainous landscape of the heavily populated Donetsk plateau is characterized by hilly and mountainous areas in which a few smaller rivers have dug themselves.
The largest cities in or on the edge of the Donetsk Plateau include: Donetsk , Horlivka , Makiyivka , Stakhanov and Luhansk .
