Donna Cohn-Brandt

Donna Rebecca Cohn-Brandt (born February 1, 1951 in Columbus , Georgia , USA ; † August 30, 2014 in Berlin ) was an American- German actress . She is best known for theater, musicals and films.

Life

Her father was an auctioneer (Cohn Auktions Co) and real estate dealer. She had a sister and a brother. After graduating from primary school and high school in Columbus, Donna went to Boston to study music, dance, and drama at The Boston Conservatory . After graduating, she got engagements in smaller roles on Broadway in New York. At the end of the 1970s she was audited at the Theater des Westens for the musical Cabaret . After this engagement she stayed in Berlin. At the end of the seventies, she met the actor and voice actor Volker Brandt , whom she married in 1980. From this marriage their two children Lina (born 1982) and Hannah (born 1989) emerged.

Act

In 1979 she had her first engagement in Berlin in the musical Cabaret in the Theater des Westens. This was followed by engagements in the Schiller Theater, the Renaissance Theater and the Freie Volksbühne; 1979 again in the Theater des Westens in a production by Karl Vibach As once in May , with Immo Kronberg and Volker Brandt, 1981 again in the Schiller Theater in Everyone dies for himself by Fallada (directed by Peter Zadek and Jerome Savary), 1984 in the Freie Volksbühne in Peter Zadek's Ghetto by Joshua Sobol, 1987/88 in the Renaissance Theater, Berlin in John Osborne's Der Entertainer next to Harald Juhnke (director: Gerhard Klingenberg) and in 1988 in the Schiller Theater Berlin in Das Großes Welttheater by Pedro Calderon de la Barca, Adaptation by Joseph Freiherr von Eichendorff (production / stage: Augusto Fernandes).

As a dubbing and voice-over speaker, her voice was heard in documentaries and commercials, such as B. for Jil Sander.

In addition to her acting work, she was socially active for years in the Ronald McDonald Foundation and in the American Woman's Club of Berlin.
