Dora Koster

Dora Koster (born June 5, 1939 in St. Gallen ; † November 29, 2017 ) was a Swiss writer , painter and former prostitute . She was also known under the pseudonyms Oiseau Bleu / Blauer Vogel , Platonia Mars and Isa Syltjé .

Life

Koster spent her first years with her maternal grandparents in Alsace . After the Second World War, her mother returned to Switzerland with her in 1945. Until she was twenty, Dora Koster lived in 35 different families, eight children's homes and, most recently, in a boarding school, where she was musically influenced. At the age of twenty she left Switzerland and worked in Paris on the Place des Vosges , with Rabbi David Feuerwerker as governess. After her return to Switzerland, Dora Koster entered the political scene in Geneva . She then worked as an employee in various companies until she was forty and also ran a so-called sex clinic in Zurich until her daughter came of age.

Her first book Nothing goes anymore. Stations of a woman from the milieu (1980) triggered a considerable response at the 1980 Frankfurt Book Fair . As a reaction to this unexpected development, Koster soon withdrew into private life. Since then she has worked as a writer and painter.

Dora Koster has been involved in voluntary work for AIDS sufferers and people in difficult situations in Zurich for over 30 years . For her literary achievements and her social commitment, she was awarded prizes by the city and canton of Zurich and the island of Helgoland .

The ZDF broadcast on March 31, 1981 a documentary review of Dora Koster in the series "life experiences".

Dora Koster lived in Niederdorf in Zurich . She died at the age of 78.
