Dora Schlatter (also Dora Schlatter-Schlatter ; born September 10, 1855 in St. Gallen ; † April 24, 1915 there ) was a Swiss educator and writer .

Live and act

Dora Schlatter was a daughter of the merchant couple Stephan and Wilhelmine Schlatter and a granddaughter of the well-known revival Christian Anna Schlatter . New Testament scholar Adolf Schlatter was one of her seven siblings . From 1875 she worked as a teacher at the New Girls' School in Bern . At the beginning of the 1880s she returned to St. Gallen to work as a writer. In 1883 she married the architect Salomon Schlatter , a distant cousin.

Schlatter mainly published stories, mostly for children and young people, but also poems and songs, biographies (including about her grandmother Anna and her father, but also about Marie Kurz , Jane Welsh Carlyle , Ottilie Wildermuth and others) and advice for women. All publications are shaped by their pietistic background and achieved wide distribution with editions well into the 21st century.

She should not be confused with her niece Dora Schlatter (1890-1969), a daughter of Adolf Schlatter, who was a member of the Advisory State Assembly of the State of Württemberg-Hohenzollern in 1946/47, and her great-niece Dora Schlatter († 1997), a daughter of Adolf's son Theodor Schlatter (1885–1971), who had been married to the theologian Leonhard Goppel since 1950 .
