The village church in the village of Bahnitz is a small Protestant church that was consecrated in 1982 in the communal community of Milower Land in the west of Brandenburg . It belongs to the Evangelical Church District Elbe-Fläming of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany in the provost district of Stendal-Magdeburg.

history

The village church of the village was planning its present building at least three predecessors, since the first mention of the place can be found in an episcopal document from the year 1225. To 1777 was (probably second) demolished church at this point due to disrepair and in 1782 opened a new building. This had a wooden spire in which two bronze bells hung: one was owned by the Brandenburg foundryman Andreas Moldenhauer the Elder. Ä. made in 1505, the second came from the bell foundry of Heinrich Borstelmann from Magdeburg and bears the year 1590.

This church was a plastered building in the late baroque plait style . It had a west tower , which was closed off by a concave dome with a tall lantern . All around the roof were dormers with clock faces of a tower clock . The weather vane of this building showed the year 1780. The church building was badly damaged in World War II and the roof structure was attacked by worms . The masonry and the roof were in urgent need of repair. For this reason, the church was closed by the building authorities in 1962 due to a risk of collapse . As neither the local community nor the parish had sufficient financial means for a renovation, it was decided to demolish the church building. The two historical bells were removed and temporarily stored.

The foundation wall of the church tower was only preserved at a height of about five meters . A new church was started in 1973 based on plans by the Potsdam architect Albert Gimsa , including the tower stump . After a long break, it was continued from 1978 and ended in 1982 with the consecration of the church on June 19, 1982. With its 33 seats, the church is the smallest in Havelland .

Building

Church from the southwest

The Bahnitz Church is a small church building with an almost square floor plan . The building is a simple plastered building , the worship room of which is only 14 m² in size. The only window faces south and goes up to the roof structure in the gable-integrated bell cage , which opens not only to the south but also to the north. The two bronze bells from the 16th century have been reinstalled in the bell cage. The entrance, a simple wooden door, is in the southeast corner and can be reached via a four-step staircase. Pilaster strips visually structure the facade. The roof is a saddle roof drawn over the entrance , which is covered with gray roof tiles. Inside there is a wooden gallery . Instead of the usual cross on the roof, there are two blessings on both sides of the facade.
