The Protestant village church Pfaffendorf is a hall church in Pfaffendorf , a district of the municipality of Rietz-Neuendorf in the Oder-Spree district in the state of Brandenburg . The church belongs to the parish of Oderland-Spree of the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Oberlausitz .

location

The Bundesstraße 168 runs as Pfaffendorfer Chausse in north-south direction as a central connecting axis through the place. In the historic center of the village, the church is located west of the street on a plot of land that is enclosed by a wall made of unhewn and non-layered field stones .

history

The building replaced a previous building that had become dilapidated after 75 years. The foundation stone was laid in 1735, and the church consecration took place on September 6, 1736. In 1841 the parish bought an organ . During the First World War , the parish had to hand over the larger of the two bells as part of a metal donation by the German people . In November 1924, craftsmen renewed the west tower . They also took off the tower ball and discovered some illegible documents. The incumbent Pastor Schmidt created a new document and supplemented it with some banknotes from the time of the German inflation . In the course of the construction work, the parish replaced the bells. When the existing bell was dismantled, it turned out that it had already been cast in 1458. It was returned to the church tower with a new steel bell. Extensive renovation work was carried out between 1973 and 1981.

Building description

West portal

The building was essentially made of bricks , which were then plastered . The choir is straight and has not moved in. On the east side there are two large arched windows, the shape of which is emphasized again by fashing .

The nave has a rectangular floor plan. On the north side there are three large arched windows that take up the shape of the east wall. Between the east window and the two middle windows is a significantly smaller and deeper arched window. Such a combination can also be found on the south side. Instead of the two windows to the west, however, the craftsmen only erected a large arched window here. In the middle area is a small porch with a transverse gable roof . The ship also has a gable roof that is sloped to the east .

The rectangular church tower connects to the west. It can be entered from the west through an arched portal. Above it is a small, arched panel with a wedge-shaped keystone . At the transition between tower and ship, a mighty buttress stabilize the structure on each side . On the north and south sides there is a small arched window on the ground floor . The bell storey rises above it. It has an arched sound arcade on each of the three accessible sides . Above is a pyramid roof that ends with a tower ball.

Furnishing

The pulpit altar dates from the end of the 18th century. On the western part of the horseshoe gallery is an organ made by the organ builder Weber from Lieberose . The church also includes a pair of pewter candlesticks from 1618. The painting and the stalls date from the time of the renovation in the 1970s and 1980s.

A war memorial to the south of the church commemorates those who fell from the world wars. The obelisk bears the inscription "The heroes of our community in the World War 1914–1920 / They sacrificed the future and the happiness of their youth / They will never return to their homeland / M. Schaefer Beeskow"
