Pragsdorf village church

The Protestant village church Pragsdorf is a Gothic hall church in Pragsdorf in the Mecklenburg Lake District in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . It belongs to the parish of Alt Käbelich-Warlin in the Neustrelitz Propstei of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mecklenburg .

History and architecture

The defensive looking stone church from the beginning of the 14th century with a four-sided east end and a slightly drawn in, rectangular west tower is located on the bank of a small lake. The tower was given a new gable roof in 1973, under which parts of the broken lattice tower from 1761 are still preserved. On the south side and on three sides of the polygon there are windows with double-tiered brick walls , which are framed by slender ogival twin panels ; On the windowless north side, the panels are designed without brick, similar panels are prepared on the tower. The beginnings of archivolts are still preserved on the west portal above brick fighters , which are made of field stone with shaped stones in between , similar to the church in the district of Dahlen von Brunn (Mecklenburg) . On the south side there is a walled stone portal, to the east of it a second portal with richly profiled brick walls and the original door with fittings and a lock from the 14th century. The porch with a gable with pinnacles is made of field stone and probably dates from the 14th century. The interior of the church is now flat, but prepared for arching, as can be seen from the shield arches . A restoration of the interior was carried out in 2004.

Furnishing

A two-story wooden pulpit altar with flanking columns, carved acanthus cheeks and barriers dates from 1761. The unadorned cupola of a baptismal font has been preserved from the 14th century . Like the altar, the pastor's stalls date from the middle of the 18th century; a bell was cast around 1400. A silver-gilt chalice was created in 1717. A pewter paten dates from the 17th or 18th century. The brass baptismal bowl is dated 1669. A pair of pewter candlesticks dates from the first half of the 18th century. There is no organ. An ornamental frieze is attached under the beamed ceiling.
