The village church Rudow in the Berlin district of Neukölln is the church of the Evangelical parish in the district of Rudow in the parish of Neukölln of the Berlin district of the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia . It was built in the second half of the 13th century; its existence from 1375 is proven.

Building history

The church was originally a simple rectangular hall building made of field stones with a pointed arched west portal. In 1653 a wooden roof tower with a Welsch dome was added , which in 1713 had to give way to a stone tower covered with slate . In 1733 and 1755 it was rebuilt several times; The large windows of the church that were customary at that time also date from 1755. In 1732 and 1743 the tower received its bells and in 1804 a new top. A pulpit was also added to the interior in 1720 .

In 1848 the entire village church of Rudow was renewed and the previously plastered field stones were exposed. As early as 1909, the next alterations were made, giving the church a cross-like transept . The east end of the nave , which had been flat until then , was given a polygonal choir with three sides. In the course of this construction work, the tower was raised by four meters.

Renewal after the Second World War

Like many others in Berlin, the Rudow village church suffered severe damage during World War II . The renovation was completed in 1954; since then the choir part has had a flat ending with a new kind of rose window . Only the stone walls below the tower, the pointed arch gate on the western front, one side of the nave , a grave slab from 1736 for Eva Maria Puhlmann, wife of the Köpenick bailiff , as well as two tower clock dials and the weather vane from 1909 remain of the historical building fabric . In addition, the church bell from 1732 had been found again, which had escaped melting down at the end of the war.

The new furnishings come primarily from Ulrich Knispel , who made the circular window above the altar, Hermann Haase-Ilsenburg , from whom the wooden crucifix comes. The Pietà in the memorial room is by Gerhart Schreiter .

Use of the church building and community life

In addition to the normal use of worship services including the Lord's Supper, baptisms, confirmations, weddings or funeral ceremonies, the church is open to visitors on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. On Saturdays around 11:45 am, a 15-minute short prayer will take place as part of the “Open Church”. In the community there are u. a. a gospel choir, a band , a Bible reading group, a prayer group, groups of children, young people, senior citizens and women as well as a trumpet choir.
