Evangelical Church Unterweißbach

The Protestant village church Unterweißbach is in the community Unterweißbach in the district of Saalfeld-Rudolstadt in Thuringia .

history

The year 1845 on the weather vane refers to the renewal of the tower crown ; So far nothing has been found about the previous history of a church in Unterweißbach. The building is probably much older, because when the church was built in Oberweißbach from 1767 to 1779, the believers from Oberweißbach are said to have used the Unterweißbach church .

Since its renovation in 1978/1979, the church has united old and new sacred art.

The carved altar by the Riemenschneider student Hans Gottwald was made before 1510 and restored at the beginning of 1980. In the middle , Mary is shown standing on the crescent moon with the apple-bearing baby Jesus on her right arm. Carrying two angels at their heads . On the left Bishop Nicholas with two gold nuggets and on the right Deacon Laurentius . An abbot is depicted on the left wing . On the right wing there is Saint Martin with a sword. On the outside of the altar there are panel paintings , the altar cross , lectern , candlesticks and a cross by the Erfurt metal designer Helmut Griese.

His meditation on the metal cross :

  • Copper = red = stands for Christ
  • Gold = yellow = stands for God the Father
  • `Silver = white = stands for the Holy Spirit
