Village church of Wölmsdorf

The Protestant village church of Wölmsdorf in the municipality of Niedergörsdorf in the district of Wölmsdorf in the Teltow-Fläming district in Brandenburg is located in the center of the village and is a listed building. The church in Niedergörsdorf had been the mother church since at least 1450. Originally the landowners had the patronage right, from 1225 the monastery Zinna and from 1553 the sovereign.

church

The field stone church was built around 1300 as a hall . The pointed arch portals , the window openings and the masonry with the trimmed field stones give clues to the construction time . The church is a hall building with a roof turret . The portals on the north and west sides have been preserved, the east portal is walled up. The western pointed arch window on the north side is the only window that has been preserved. The other windows have changed inconsistently over time.

In 1774 there was a renovation of the church. The west tower with a pyramid roof was probably built during this renovation . This west tower was replaced in 1968 by a ridge turret with a pyramid roof. During this renovation, parts of the furnishings were destroyed and the organ was brought to Potsdam . The galleries were dismantled and a winter church was set up in the western part of the church . The parish chairs were preserved in two blocks.

Furnishing

The baroque altarpiece dates from the beginning of the 18th century. It was made of wood. In the predella there is a representation of the Lord's Supper. The main picture shows Christ at the scourge column. There is a resurrection picture above the main picture. This picture is between Moses and Paul as figures. There are pillars on the side of the main picture.

The pulpit is from the same period as the altarpiece. The polygonal basket stands on a baluster foot , with leaf hangers at the corners of the basket. There are paintings of Christ and the four evangelists on the parapet . The sound cover has a clasp crown. In the church there are four carved figures from around 1470/1480. All figures probably come from a reredos . Today the figures are on consoles with a canopy each . Depicted are a seated Madonna , Saint Margaret, Simon and James the Elder. J. The last two are smaller than the other two.

War memorial

The war memorial commemorates those who died in the Wölmsdorf community in the First World War . It is a cast stone stele on a base with a curved gable. On the stele there is a bas-relief on a plaque depicting a warrior with a flag. Next to the names of the perished soldiers there is the following inscription on the plaque: “In memory / our heroes who died in the world wars / 1914–1918 / fallen heroes”. In the gable on the stele there is a medallion with an iron cross .
