History and description of the building

The church was probably built around 1200. Only the western part of this Romanesque building has been preserved. It is a hall building made of field stone with a length of 29.5 meters. At the end of the 15th century a new roof was built, the wooden barrel ceiling of which is still preserved. A special event was the murder of the last Catholic pastor Michael Gröbitz in 1538. In 1540, M. Valentin Große became a Protestant pastor.

In the second half of the 17th century the church was substantially rebuilt and renewed. The eastern part of the church was rebuilt, the church has received a three-sided end. The east end has arched windows and half-height buttresses . The wood of the eastern roof structure was dendrochronologically dated to 1678. In 1709 the windows were enlarged and a flat ceiling was installed instead of a possible earlier barrel vault . In 1714 the church got a wooden roof tower, which was damaged by lightning in 1852 and dismantled. The current tower was rebuilt in 1854. It is a tower that was built from field stones in the lower part and from bricks in the upper part. It has a square floor plan and an octagonal pointed helmet . In 1892 part of the western roof structure was replaced, in 1896 the interior of the church was renovated.

Furnishing

The furnishings are mainly from the period of renovation around 1678, such as the altarpiece with winding columns and coats of arms in the cartilage . Today there is a modern crucifix in the main field. An altarpiece with the resurrection of Jesus comes from the second half of the 19th century. The baptismal font and the pulpit also date from the period of renovation around 1678. The pulpit with a round basket is located on the north wall. The organ was built in 1764 by Hübler from Düben. In 1904 A. Schuke from Potsdam renovated the organ. There is a tombstone for Pastor Wolfgang Scheffler on the north wall. On the west side there is a plaque commemorating those who died in the First World War . The bell was cast in Apolda in 1885 .
