Dorian Leigh (born April 23, 1917 in San Antonio , Texas as Dorian Elizabeth Leigh Parker , † July 7, 2008 in Falls Church , Virginia ) was an American model and actress of the 1940s and 1950s.

Life

Leigh was born the daughter of a chemist. She had three sisters, Georgiabell, Florian and Cecilia, who later also became famous under the name Suzy Parker . Leigh studied English at Randolph-Macon Woman's College in Lynchburg and later mathematics at New York University . She first worked in the United States Navy and then moved to Eastern Aircraft Corporation. Leigh introduced her to a modeling agency and was accepted there. In June 1944, her photo appeared on the cover of Harper's Bazaar magazine . In 1946, Leigh was featured on the cover of Vogue seven times . Leigh worked in the 1950s as a model for Revlon in the famous Fire and Ice campaign and set up his own modeling agency, Agency Dorian Leigh , which u. A. represented the then aspiring Nico . Leigh was the muse of Truman Capote and is considered the role model for the character of Holly Golightly . In 1980 she published her autobiography under the title The Girl Who Had Everything .

Dorian Leigh has been married four times and has five children. Her first marriage to Marshall Hawkins had a son and daughter. The marriage was divorced in 1937. Her second marriage to Navy officer Roger W. Mehle in 1948 resulted in a daughter. Her third husband was Serge Bordat, from this marriage comes a daughter. In 1964, Leigh married the playwright Iddo Ben-Gurion. The marriage, which was divorced again in 1966, remained childless. From an extramarital relationship with the Spanish racing driver Alfonso de Portago , Dorian Leigh had a son who committed suicide in 1977 at the age of 21.

She died on July 7, 2008 of Alzheimer's disease .
