biography

Doris Aebi grew up as the daughter of the station manager of the Walchwil train station in the canton of Zug, her mother was a farmer's daughter from Kölliken in the canton of Aargau . In 1983 Aebi wrote her Matura thesis on the subject of women in Swiss politics . At the same time, the Social Democratic Party of Switzerland made Lilian Uchtenhagen the first female candidate for the Federal Council . Uchtenhagen's non-election triggered shock waves across the country. Even with Doris Aebi, who says the non-election made her politicized. Aebi studied economics and sociology and graduated in 1990 as lic.phil.I. She wrote her thesis on the effectiveness of cantonal economic development for the canton of Solothurn and surveyed around 300 companies. The government council presented the study at a media conference and drew on the work done in redesigning the economic development policy. Doris Aebi taught and researched as an economic sociologist at the universities of Zurich and Bern. In 1994 she was in Zurich with the topic of education between market and state for Dr. phil. I. PhD. In it she pleaded for a clear division of tasks: the public sector subsidizes further training with vouchers and leaves the further training offer to the market.

Doris Aebi lives in Schöftland in the canton of Aargau. She is married to René Kuehni, whose four children she brought up from the first connection.

politics

1993 Doris Aebi was for the SP in the Cantonal Solothurn selected. There she was on the Finance Commission for two legislative terms. She caused a sensation with her motion for a professional initiative to introduce demand-oriented funding for further training ("subsidize individuals instead of institutions") , which the council transferred across parties and which demanded that the government propose the idea of education vouchers that she had developed in her doctoral thesis. Both the Council of States and the National Council subsequently referred a postulate calling for a system change in the financing of further training courses in line with the Solothurn professional initiative. From 1992 to 2004 Aebi was a member of the economic council of the Solothurn government. In 1997 she ran for the government council and became a member of the university council of the newly founded Solothurn University of Applied Sciences. When the cantons of Aargau, Basel-Landschaft, Basel-Stadt and Solothurn merged their universities of applied sciences to form the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW), the four governments elected Aebi to the FHNW University Council, of which she was a member until 2017.

In 2000, Doris Aebi resigned as a Solothurn Cantonal Councilor and moved to live with her husband in Aargau. Since then she has been non-party, but sympathized with the green liberals . When asked by the glp, she made herself available as a candidate for the government council of the canton of Aargau .
