Markus Gisler (born December 3, 1952 ) is a Swiss journalist and moderator .

Life

Markus Gisler completed his studies at the higher business and administration school in Zurich (today Zurich University of Economics ) and graduated in 1982.

In 1982 he began his journalistic career at the Swiss business newspaper Finanz und Wirtschaft . In 1984 he helped found Radio Z (today Energy Zurich ) as a presenter and business journalist. In 1986 he moved to the business editor of the Tages-Anzeiger . In 1989 he helped design the business newspaper Cash . As its editor-in-chief , he helped shape the Swiss media landscape between 1990 and 2000. As host of the TV show Cash-Talk, Markus Gisler interviewed Switzerland's business elite for many years. In 1998 he received the Harvard Club Award for Excellence in Business Journalism. From 1994 to 1998 he was a member of the specialist commission for the FER accounting recommendations .

In 2000, Credit Suisse , Swisscom and Tamedia appointed him CEO of the internet finance portal Moneycab , which he built up as CEO and managed until the end of 2002. In 2002 he was elected to the board of directors of Jean Frey AG . From 2003 until the end of 2004, Markus Gisler took over the chief editor of the Aargauer Zeitung , the third largest Swiss daily newspaper. In 2005 he was an adviser on the reality series of SF DRS Traumjob , a licensed version of Donald Trump's The Apprentice .

Since 2005 he has been working as a partner in a communications agency in Zurich . He regularly writes business columns for major Swiss newspapers. Since 2009 he has also been teaching business journalism at the University of St. Gallen .

Other activities and private matters

In autumn 2012 he was elected to the city ​​council of Rapperswil-Jona , a 25% part-time mandate; he resigned after a term of office at the end of 2016. He has been President of the FDP Rapperswil-Jona since 2017. Markus Gisler is married to the business journalist Marianne Fassbind who works for the Swiss Tagesschau . The couple have two children. For Markus Gisler, photography has become more than a hobby . He regularly exhibits his landscape paintings.
