Doris Brown ( Doris Elaine Brown, née Severtson, second marriage to Heritage; born September 17, 1942 in Gig Harbor ) is a former American middle and long-distance runner .

Over 800 m she won silver at the Pan American Games in 1967 in Winnipeg and was fifth at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City.

After further silver medals over 800 m at the Pacific Conference Games 1969 and the Pan American Games 1971 in Cali, she qualified in 1972 over 1500 m for the Olympic Games in Munich , but renounced a start.

After winning the Cross of Nations five times in a row from 1967 to 1971 , she came in 15th place at the 1973 World Cross Country Championships in Waregem and won bronze with the US team. 1975 in Rabat she finished 17th and won with the US team.

In 1976 she came 17th at the Cross Country World Championships in Chepstow and took bronze in the team championship. A victory in the Vancouver Marathon was followed by a second place in the New York City Marathon . At the Cross Country World Championships in 1977 in Düsseldorf, she came in 48th place.

She was US cross-country champion five times (1966, 1968–1971), twice over 1500 m (1966, 1969) and once over 800 m (1968) and two miles (1971). In the hall she won the US title in the mile run four times (1967, 1968, 1971, 1972). In 1969 she became Canadian champion in cross country.
