Doris Günther (Entrepreneur)

Doris Günther (born Doris Birke ; born March 4, 1919 in Leipzig ; † December 19, 2009 there ) was a German entrepreneur and patron .

Live and act

In 1967, after the death of her husband Herbert Günther (1906–1967), Doris Günther took over the management of the printing company, which was founded in 1906 by her father-in-law Richard Günther (1879–1958) with Gustav Kirstein and Reinhold Wendler in Stötteritz as the “Book and Art Print Shop Günther , Kirstein, Wendler "(also" Offizin von Günther, Kirstein and Wendler, Leipzig ") was founded. In 1972 the medium-sized company was nationalized in the GDR ; Doris Guenther remained director of the renamed "Messedruck Leipzig" state-owned enterprise . When this was to be incorporated into VOB Zentrag , Doris Günther left the company in March 1981. She began to work at the Evangelical Main Bible Society and later became the head of the Leipzig branch.

After the fall of the Wall , Doris Günther submitted an application to transfer the business back in February 1990 . This was advocated and in 1991 she founded "Messedruck Leipzig GmbH" with Axel Schöpa. The company produced all kinds of print products.

In 2002 Doris Günther ended her job as an entrepreneur. Messedruck Leipzig merged with Jütte Druck to form “Jütte-Messedruck Leipzig”. In 2007, Jütte-Messedruck Leipzig was renamed Messedruck Leipzig again. In 2013 this company was closed.

In addition to her entrepreneurial activity, Doris Günther was socially committed in a variety of ways. In 1994 she was a co-founder of the Harmonie Leipzig Society . In 1999 she became the first honorary member of the “Förderkreis Thomanerchor Leipzig”. In 2010 she was posthumously appointed chorister of the “Foundation Canons of St. Thomae” in Leipzig. She was an honorary member of the “Friends of the Grassi Museum for Applied Art ”.

In 2001 she founded the “Doris Günther Foundation”. The purpose of the foundation is "the promotion of particularly worthy cultural purposes, youth welfare, public health and charitable purposes [...] The funded facilities and measures should have a spatial, material and personal relationship to Leipzig or the surrounding area."

Doris Günther died on December 19, 2009. She was buried in the Südfriedhof Leipzig.
