Dorit Chrysler
Dorit Chrysler (born September 12, 1966 in Graz , actually Dorit Kreisler ) is an Austrian music producer, singer, theremin player , sound engineer and multi-instrumentalist.
Live and act
Chrysler spent her childhood and youth in Austria. At the age of seven she sang in the children's choir of the Graz Opera and remained connected to music. At 18 she moved to New York City because of the music scene there , where she founded the experimental rock band Halcion . She has worked as a musician with numerous other artists such as Elliott Sharp , Matt Johnson , Lary Seven and Toby Dammit ( Swans ), Foetus , Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Ultra Vivid Scene .
She has performed solo since 2000. During this time she discovered the theremin for herself and immediately afterwards began to play it seriously. She performed with him at the Konzerthaus in Vienna , the CBGB , the Roskilde Festival , the Ottawa Bluesfest and in 2011 at the Venice Biennale . She played in churches, museums and clubs for experimental music. She performed at the 2005 World Exhibition in Aichi, Japan. Your sound installation "1%" runs in an elevator in the French Ministry of Culture. She played in the Lidia Kawina 100th birthday tribute for Clara Rockmore .
In New York she founded the New York Theremin Society with Suzanne Fiol , of which she is chairman.
Chrysler's concert program consists of both pop music and experimental compositions. In addition to the theremin, she also plays the harmonium , harmonica , air synth and keyboard .
Trivia
In 2011, she took part in the April Fool's joke of the largest theremin manufacturer Moog Music . This announced a polyphonic variant of the monophonic instrument, which was presented on April 1st by Dorit Chrysler. She "played" an unusual version of Stairway to Heaven on it .
