Dorothea Rust (actually Dora Anna Rust ; born November 15, 1955 in Zug , resident in Walchwil, ZG ) is a Swiss performance artist and dancer . Dorothea Rust lives and works in Zurich .

Life

Dorothea Rust studied from 1979 to 1983 modern dance in Zurich and Bern (rhythmic gymnastics and modern dance based on Laban technique , Graham technique , Cunningham-Limon technique , improvisation, classical ballet, Eutonie by Gerda Alexander , voice training / singing lessons, etc.).

She then moved to New York where she studied postmodern dance and performance from 1983 to 1991. From 1994 to 1997 Dorothea Rust trained as a teacher of the Alexander Technique (ACAT) in Zurich and New York . 1999 to 2003, studied fine arts and from 2004 to 2006 MAS Culture / Gender Studies , both at the Zurich University of the Arts .

Rust has also been active as a curator since the early 2000s, for example with The Longest Day, 16 hours of non-stop performances in the open air (2004–2008 co-curatorium with Peter Emch ; since 2014 with Irene Müller) and GNOM group for new music bathing (2009-2015). In December 2019, together with Irene Müller, she organized for the first time The Longest Night - The Longest Night , 16 hours of non-stop performances, in the Kunstraum Walcheturm Zurich.

Since 2000 Dorothea Rust has shown her performances at the Performance Biennale DEFORMES in Chile, at the ZAZ Festival in Israel, at the Live Art Festival Bangalore in India, at the Performance Art Center in Toronto or at the Momentum 5 platform for performance art in Brussels. In 2016 she received the Swiss Performance Prize.
