Dorothea Zech

Dorothea Zech (born March 9, 1929 in Aachen ; † October 27, 2017 ) was a German textile designer .

Life

Dorothea Zech passed the Abitur in Sankt Ingbert in 1949 and studied at the State School for Arts and Crafts in Saarbrücken , today's Saar College of Fine Arts . She learned picture embroidery and painting with the textile artist Ella Broesch and Boris Kleint . After her final exam in 1953, she took her master craftsman examination as a textile craftsman in Aachen with a special permit in 1954.

In 1955, Zech opened her own workshop in Sankt Ingbert, which she later moved to Saarbrücken and in 1966 to the house built by Hanns Schönecker in Heusweiler . She designed 60 antependia , 52 church vestments and a total of around 400 wall hangings for public and sacred spaces.
