Dorothy Constance Stratton (born March 24, 1899 in Brookfield , Missouri , † September 17, 2006 in West Lafayette , Indiana ) was the head of SPARS , the United States Coast Guard's female reserve during World War II .

She graduated from Ottawa University in Kansas in 1920 and received her MD from the University of Chicago . She earned a PhD from Columbia University and taught at public high schools in Brookfield, Missouri, Renton, Washington, and San Bernardino, California before becoming an assistant professor of psychology at Purdue University .

In 1942 she joined WAVES as a lieutenant captain. She was later posted to the Coast Guard in Washington, DC to help set up the Coast Guard Female Reserve and was transferred to the US Coast Guard by the United States Navy . Stratton died in West Lafayette , Indiana at the age of 107.
