Dorydrilus (from the Greek word δόρυ "spear" and δρίλος "earthworm") is the name of a genus of Wenigborstern , the only genus of mono generic family Dorydrilidae in the annelid class of clitellata (Clitellata) whose three types especially in groundwater and in Cavesare commonin Europe .

features

The body of the Dorydrilidae has 4 bundles with 2 single-pointed, S-shaped bristles on each segment except the first segment .

The animals have a pair of testes in the 9th segment (on the septum on the 8th) and a pair of ovaries in the 10th segment (on the septum on the 9th). The receptacula seminis open outward in the 10th or 11th segment or in both. The pair of male genital orifices is located in the 10th segment and is plesioporous, because from the pair of testicular funnels in the 9th segment the two sperm conductors lead to the pair of muscular, egg-shaped male atria in the 10th segment. The pair of female genital orifices are located in the groove between the 10th and 11th segments.

Distribution, habitat and way of life

The Dorydrilidae are common in the temperate latitudes in Europe . They are freshwater inhabitants and can be found mainly in the hyporheic interstitial of flowing waters , in groundwater and in caves.

Systematics

Édouard Émile Piguet described in 1913 based on a find in the hyporheic interstitial of the Allondon near Geneva the type species Dorydrilus michaelseni simultaneously with the genus Dorydrilus , which he placed in the family Lumbriculidae . With the generic name he referred to the spear-like shape of the annelid ( Greek word δόρυ "spear" and δρίλος "earthworm"), while he honored the zoologist Wilhelm Michaelsen with the specific epithet . In 1971, David G. Cook set up the monogeneric family Dorydrilidae due to the different structure of the genital organs.

According to the systematics of Oligochaeta from 1988 by Barrie GM Jamieson , the Dorydrilidae with the only genus Dorydrilus belong to the order Tubificida , but this taxon is no longer considered monophyletic based on work by Erséus and Källersjö from 2004.

The following 3 species belong to the genus Dorydrilus :

Dorydrilus wiardi Michaelsen, 1933 , on the other hand, is today classified as Guestphalinus wiardi in the family Lumbriculidae .
