Douglas James Johnson

Douglas James Johnson (* 1937 in Coldwater , Michigan ; † 1998 in Joucas ) was an American draftsman and painter who lived in France for a long time.

life and work

Douglas James Johnson studied at Michigan State University and Columbia University with Robert Motherwell and Philip Guston .

Johnson traveled to Italy, England, Switzerland, Sri Lanka and Iran. He lived in Paris and Forcalquier , among others .

In 1971 Johnson had his first solo exhibition in Tehran at the center of the Iran-America Society . In 1977 he exhibited at documenta 6 in Kassel .

Caroline Fellowes was a close friend of Johnson's and worked in his studio until his death in 1998.
