Coldwater is a city ( City ) in the United States in the US state of Michigan . The German twin town of Coldwater is Soltau .
history
Coldwater was first settled in 1830 by Allen Tibbits and Joseph Hanchett. It officially got its name in 1833. It is named after the River Coldwater , which flows through the city and forms several lakes to the north and west of it. In 1861 the place received city rights.
Also in 1861, the city placed an artillery battery (1st Michigan Volunteer Light Artillery) , led by Commander Cyrus Loomis , for the Northern States to take part in the American Civil War . This later became one of the most famous units of the civil war. Some of their 10 pound cannons can still be seen in the city center today.
