Douglas Spencer-Nairn, 2nd Baronet

Sir Douglas Leslie Spencer Spencer-Nairn, 2nd Baronet JP ( December 24, 1906 - November 8, 1970 ) was a Scottish politician of the Unionist Party .

Life

Spencer-Nairn was born the second child of Sir Robert Spencer-Nairn, 1st Baronet, and his wife Clara Kathleen . In the late 1920s he acquired at the Shrewsbury School and the Trinity College of Cambridge University Bachelor's degrees . In 1932 a master’s degree was added. At the World War II Douglas Nairn had the rank of lieutenant colonel of the Black Watch involved. Because of his military service he was awarded the Territorial Decoration . He was also used as Justice of the Peace .

In January 1931, Spencer-Nairn married Elizabeth Livingston Henderson , with whom he had three children, Mary Elizabeth (* 1931), Robert (* 1933) and John (* 1938). The marriage ended in divorce, however, and Spencer-Nairn married Louise Vester in 1946 . With her he fathered two more children, Frank (* 1949) and Teresa (* 1952).

In 1960, when his father died, he inherited the title of Baronet , of Monimail in the County of Fife. When he died himself in 1970, his eldest son Robert inherited the title.

Political career

In the general election in 1955 , Spencer-Nairn ran for the Unionist Party for the mandate of the constituency of Central Ayrshire . With a lead of just 167 votes, he won the seat against Labor candidate Archibald Manuel , who won it for the first time in the 1950 elections . Spencer-Nairn moved into the British House of Commons and served as Parliamentary Private Secretary . In the following general election in 1959 , he just lost his mandate to Manuel and left the House of Commons.
