The Douglas Water is a river in the Scottish council area of South Lanarkshire .

It rises at a height of 457 m on the slopes of the 593 m high Cairn Table near the border between South Lanarkshire in the east and East Ayrshire in the west. Its entire course through the sparsely populated south of South Lanarkshire follows primarily a northeasterly direction. After a few kilometers, Douglas Water passes Glenbuck Loch , the source lake of the Ayr flowing west , around 200 m away. The Glespin Burn, one of the largest tributaries, flows into the hamlet of Glespin . The Douglas Water touches the village of Douglas and flows into the Clyde after a total of 32 km near New Lanark above the Falls of Clyde .
From Glenbuck Loch, the A70 ( Edinburgh - Ayr ) roughly follows the course of Douglas Waters and crosses the river once. Furthermore, the M74 runs over the river.
