Douglas William Jerrold
Douglas William Jerrold (born January 3, 1803 in London , † June 8, 1857 ibid), pseudonym Barnabas Whitefeather , was an English playwright and storyteller .
Life
In the German-speaking countries, despite his extensive oeuvre , the author is almost exclusively known for Madame Kaudel's curtain sermons (1846), which Friedrich Gerstäcker wrote with titles such as When I got stuck in a tavern , Madame Kaudel alludes to how comfortably I would live if " her good mother "lived with us or when Madame Kaudel believed that it was proper to celebrate her - pardon - our wedding anniversary in German.
The most successful works in his home country also include, although rarely performed, the dramatic works Black-eyed Susan (1829), The Rent Day (1832) and his historical play about Thomas à Becket - including the short skits from the Men of Character collection ( 1838) received a lot of attention, like the two books with Sketchen Cakes and Ale (1842) and the stories The Story of a Feather (1844), The Chronicles of Clovernook (1846), A Man made of Money (1849) and St Giles and St James (1851).
In addition to Mrs Caudle's Curtain Lectures , Jerrold created another classic of the satirical short form with Punch's Letters to his Son (1843).
