Dov Bar-Nir

Dov Bar-Nir (birth name: Bernard Zilbershitz ; Hebrew דב בר-ניר; * December 3, 1911 in Brussels ; † May 7, 2000 ) was an Israeli politician who was a member of the first Knesset from 1949 to 1951 .

Life

After attending schools in Brussels, Bar-Nir studied social sciences at the University of Strasbourg , which he completed with a doctorate . During this time he was one of the founders of the socialist - Zionist scout organization Hashomer Hatzair in Belgium . After his immigration ( Aliyah ) to the League of Nations mandate area of ​​Palestine in 1932, he was a member of the Kibbutz Ain HaHoresh until 1956 and active in the Socialist League.

Bar-Nir, who was Secretary of Hashomer Hatzair from 1946 to 1948 , was elected a member of the first Knesset after the establishment of the State of Israel on February 14, 1949 and remains a member of it until the end of the legislative period on August 20, 1951. During his parliamentary membership he was a member of several Knesset committees and in 1950 for some time representative of the Hashomer Hatzair in the USA .

After leaving the Knesset, he was first secretary of the Central Committee of the Mapam , the United Workers' Party, from 1951 to 1953 , and later from 1957 to 1960 secretary of the Mapam World Union. He was also a member of the editorial team of the monthly New Outlook magazine .

Bar-Nir published numerous articles in newspapers such as Maariw and Davar and was also a columnist for the newspapers Al HaMischmar and Sde Iyun . He also wrote several books such as:
