action
Somewhere in sunny Puerto Rico: Private detective Al Pereira has seen much better days in his professional life. He needs more jobs because his cash register is almost empty. One day he meets the opaque, mysterious Cynthia who promises a lucrative job. Pereira is said to be monitoring a notorious businessman and politician named Ramos, because Cynthia believes he is cheating on her, and Pereira is supposed to take appropriate photos of the cheating. An easy job, it seems to Pereira, and he gets to work. But the lady who gave him the job seems to be playing a double game and pulls him into a murderous affair. In any case, one day Pereira finds Ramos dead and has the police on his neck, who suspect him of having killed the politician.
Because apparently Pereira was the last to see Ramos alive, because he snapped the cheater in a clear position while making love and then quickly snuck out of his house. In order to prove his innocence, Pereira goes with the investigating Police Inspector to the widow of Ramos, in order to have her confirm that she was the client. But Cynthia does not even think about relieving Pereira, because the widow is someone completely different: In front of the two men stands Olga Ramos, who is completely unknown to Pereira, who nevertheless relieves the private snoop. Pereira can't make a proper sense of the story when one day he meets the client, Cynthia, again. She works as a striptease dancer and begins to cast her spider web over Pereira. Soon he falls for the dark siren, but what game does the real widow play?
Production notes
Downtown - The Naked Puppets of the Underworld was filmed largely in Nice in August 1975 . In Germany the film could be seen in cinemas from May 1976. For video distribution, the strip was given the new title Black Nylons, Wild Angels .
useful information
The film marked the first direct collaboration between Europe's most important trash filmmakers from the 1960s to 1980s, Jess Franco (Jesús Franco Manera) and Erwin C. Dietrich . Screenwriter Christine Lembach , who had already written the manuscript for An Army Gretchen for Dietrich in 1972 , chose the ingredients typical of the film noir genre: a "broken", hired private detective, a dangerous "femme fatale" and an opaque top villain. While Franco wanted to play the Puerto Rican dirty detective Al Pereira himself, he chose his partner Lina Romay for the role of the seductive and opaque Cynthia.
criticism
The Lexicon of International Films called the film a “ backstairs product”.
