The environmental project Naturinsel Drachenmühle is located on the edge of the Nasswiesenkomplex Döllnitzaue nature reserve in Schweta , near Oschatz . One of the primary concerns of this self-organized project is to make a contribution to regional and supra-regional environmental education. This project was awarded for four years in a row by the “ UNESCO World Decade ” for 2009/2010 & 2011/2012 (Project No .: 1115, Awarded: 2009/2010) & (Project No.:2013, Awarded 2011/12).

history

Schweta (in the 13th century Zwete - von svet = light, clearing, clearing) was built as a manor village with rows of houses, so-called threshing houses, a sheep farm, a forester's house, a gardener's house and probably at the beginning of the 19th century a restaurant and a forge. a district of the municipality of Mügeln . Valuable Neolithic finds have been made in the vicinity, such as the remains of a ceramic band settlement . The church in the village was built in 1751 under the influence of George Bähr . The Umweltinsel Drachenmühle project is located in the former water mill, which was previously powered by an overshot water wheel. The water was fed in through the Mühlengraben from the Döllnitzbach.

Project start

This project was born at the end of 2003 and, together with the Local Agenda 21 campaign - “Education for Sustainable Development”, grew into an environmental project recognized throughout Germany.

The instruction for a sustainable life takes place in the nature island Drachenmühle primarily through concrete knowledge transfer and daily work in numerous seminars and workshops. With this practical approach, the privately funded project differs significantly from the municipal measures and actions.

First target group "children and adolescents"

A Local Agenda 21 is an action program that a municipality should develop towards sustainability . For this reason, the project sponsors of the "Naturinsel Drachenmühle" offer a variety of local children and youth programs.

  • Child and environmental education
  • Educational seminars for sustainable development (e.g. permaculture , ...)
  • Herbalism Seminars (Identify-Collect-Use)
  • Use of renewable energies / bio-fuel
  • Preservation of old orchards , extensive animal husbandry, ...
  • Learning the traditional craft, such as B. Baking bread, building courses for wooden instruments, ...

By consciously experiencing nature, the senses are trained on many levels, creativity is set free and children learn to deal with limits and challenges in a natural way. In the center of the natural island of Drachenmühle is the founding family Schembritzki.
