Dragonlord is an American extreme metal band with influences from Thrash and symphonic black metal . It was founded in 2001 by Eric Peterson , the guitarist of the band Testament , as a side project.

history

The band released the album Rapture on the record label Spitfire Records in the first year of its existence . In addition to Peterson on vocals and guitar, you can hear other musicians known from other bands such as Steve DiGiorgio ( Death , Sadus , Testament) on bass, Steve Smyth ( Vicious Rumors , later also in Nevermore and Forbidden ) on guitar, and Jon Allen ( Sadus, Testament) on drums. Lyle Livingston completed the band with the album recordings on the keyboard. Four years later, the second album was released Black Wings of Destiny , which in Studio Fredman by Fredrik Nordström in Göteborg was added and mixed was. Before the recordings, DiGiorgio was replaced by former Testament bassist Derrick Ramirez. This and Steve Smyth left the band in the following years and were replaced by Steve Schmidt and the former Cradle-of-Filth guitarist Gian Pyres . This in turn was later replaced by Claudeous Creamer.

Dragonlord played in Geiselwind at the Earthshaker Fest in July 2005 , toured the USA and Canada from October and played together with the bands Venom , Death Angel , Sodom and Onslaught at the Thrash Domination Fest in Japan in September of the following year . After that, the band performed mainly in their Californian homeland and shared the stage with Testament, Lääz Rockit and Dublin Death Patrol, among others .

style

The band combines riffing from Thrash Metal with elements of symphonic Black Metal. The band's music has been described as a mix of Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth with Venom and Mercyful Fate . On Black Wings of Destiny coverte DragonLord both the song Black Funeral of Mercyful Fate, and Emerald by Thin Lizzy .
